Plant tomatillo from seeds. Easy and quick for summer sauces
Organic gardener Laura Watt brings us Green Verde tomatillo seeds. A bushy plant 3 to 4-feet tall and across with green 2-inch sweet fruits that are ripe when the fruits burst through the husks. Blend with hot peppers to make traditional Mexican green sauce.
50 Certified organic seeds per pack.
Planting instructions: Start seeds 6 to 8 weeks before last frost. Once seedlings have been hardened off, transplant outdoors 2 to 3-feet apart. Seeds can be sown directly outdoors in spring in mild winter climates.
Can be grown as a ground cover or try tomato cages for support. Plant a few seeds in tall pots with trellises for support.
Well drained soil. Moderate watering at base of plant. Full sun. 90-100 days.
Harvest tomatillos when the fruits are firm and the husks are papery.
