This vintage French farm pillow is handmade from grain sacks by Julie Hayes living in Bergerac, France.
Historically, linen grain sacks were produced on the farm using traditional methods. An area of land would be set aside for growing hemp or flax. The fiber would be harvested, soaked to loosen the fibers, cleaned and spun into thread.
These would have been patiently handwoven and made up by hand. The colored stripes indicated which farm the grain sacks came from.
This handmade pillow is cream, blue and red stripe from cloth thought to be 80 to 100-years-old. Feather pillow insert included. Size: 18 x 14-inches.

I am English but I currently live in rural South West France with my husband Tim and our beloved rescue dog Nancy. I have developed a passion for antique and vintage French fabrics and most weekends can be found visiting local “Brocants and Vide Greniers” (Antique Fairs & Garage Sales) looking for beautiful hand-loomed linens, mattress ticking, crochet, lace and grain sacks.
I love to make something that is a bit different so I mix fabrics to make unique and special items for the home.
